MoonShire's greatest enemy andthreat is DeathShadow, the tiger of death...
"Hey, Night!" said my new best friend, Raykill. I've noiced that all the wolves in Moonshire have a certain special attack. Ray's is called the "Rays of Light." I hear it's pretty cool.
"Hi, Ray. What's up?"
"Well, I heard from Dawnfire that Blindsight thinks Deathshadow is coming tonight!" she said in a rush. Deathshadow? I wonder who that is?
"Who's Deathshadow?" I asked. Raykill's eyes widened in shock.
"You mean you haven't heard of Deathshadow?" Ray asked, incredulous. That wasn't quite true -- I had heard of him, but only through rumors. I nodded anyway.
"Deathshadow," said Moonrise; I hadn't heard him come up, "is the fierce tiger that haunts ths place. He looks like a normal tiger, except for the black spikes on his neck, making it almost impossible to attack him. But," he continued, "he does have a weakness; on the top of his head, tere are no spikes. That is the only place to really attack, the only vulnerable spot." Moonrise lifted his gray head to the distant mountains. "I know you're there," he whispered, "and we will find you."
Leaving Moorise to guard the gorge, Ray and I went off to join Dawnfire and her little brother, Foxkiller. I wonder how he got that name?
"Hi, Ray! Hey, Nightrunner!" called Fox when Ray and I padded up.
"Hi, there, Foxkiller," said Ray. I dipped my head in welcome. "Wanna tell Night how you got your name?"
"Yeah! See, I was walking around the clearing, where we hold gatherings, and heard this noise. Dawn was too busy talking to Ray, so I decided to go and see what it was. Then, I saw it: it was a huge fox, bigger than me! I knew I had to kill it, cuz I didn't want it to get to the other pups. I ran, then pounced on its back, the fox's vulnerable spot. Then it scratched m, right on my left eye!" Foxkiller pointed to a scar that slashed across his left eye. "Then I bit down, and it ran away! I beat the fox!!!!"
"Yep," said Dawnfire. "That's why we named him Foxkiller." Just then, there was a menacing roar from the mountains. "No..." whispered Dawn. "Not Deathshadow." I saw a shadow outlined against the rising moon: a huge cat with strange spikes along his back was walking down toward us.
"Ah, it seems the pack still opposes me," said the creature I assumed was Deathshadow. "Well, not for long. I will take this territory for the Cats, and all you wolves will perish!" With that, he leaped down from the crag where he stood, eyes glowing with hate.
Who will win? To be continued...
